McGowan was selected by the Giants inthe thrid round of the 1999 draft out of Boston College. He batted .335 at Salem-Keizer (A) with 15 home runs and 62 RBI in just 257at-bats before advancing to San Jose (A). At 6-6, 240, Sean has developed a reputation for his prodigious batting practice displays. As senor at BC, he batted .430 with 25 hommers and 70 RBI, finishing second in Division I with a .916 slugging percentage. McGowan was rated San Francisco's seventh-best prospect by Baseball America prior to the 2000 season.
